Acer palmatum 'Glowing Embers' habit

Acer palmatum 'Glowing Embers' was a chance seedling found by Michael Dirr at the State Botanical Garden in Georgia. It is a small, deciduous tree that grows to about ten feet tall. It is hardy in USDA Zones 5 - 9. It may be planted in full sun.

'Glowing Embers' is in the Palmatum Group. New stem and leaf growth is a bright red. The foliage is dark green and turns from orange to red to purple in the fall. Its heat tolerance is considered to be very good, and we have found it to perform well in our hot and humid summers.
